Hey data friends! Today I will show you how to calculate date difference in Excel.
Let’s get started!
We will be working with the data table below.
This table has two different date columns. The first column has the date that each participant started their training course, while the second date column has the date that each participant completed their training course. Our goal today will be to calculate the date difference between these two dates; in other words, we will calculate the numbers of days it took each participant to complete their training course.
Our Excel formula to calculate date difference looks like this:
= Date 1 – Date 2
In our example, we will plug in the formula as follows:
Our output looks like this:
We’ve successfully calculated the difference between two dates in Excel.
If we wanted to convert the date difference to weeks, we could add in a division by 7 into our existing formula, so that it looks like this:
Our outcome would look like this:
